Guidelines For Parish Secretaries Support

DESCRIPTION

The primary function of the Parish Secretary is to provide support to the Parish Priest and parishioners of the Parish.
The Parish Secretary role is a key one in the Parish and good working relationships are required with a number of people.


FUNCTION

This document provides guidelines for support and assistance for Parish Secretaries.


POLICY

It is recommended that assistance and support is sought by the Parish Secretary to enable their responsibilities to completed to an acceptable standard and to ensure they receive the necessary level of support required.

Please contact the people listed below, as required, to get support and assistance.


RESOURCES or SERVICES

Establish good work relationships with the Parish Priest, key members of Parish Pastoral and Finance Committees (preferably Chairperson) and other parish members as appropriate.

Seek support and sharing of information, where necessary, from a Secretary from a neighbouring Parish (Diocesan Office will arrange if required).

For concerns regarding the welfare of the Parish Priest, seek support from: key parishioners, the Dean of your local Deanery (either Hamilton North, Hamilton South, Pacific Moana or Central Lakes), or the Vicar General.

NB: The current Deans and Vicar General are listed in the annual New Zealand Catholic Directory or available from Chanel Centre.

Further support is available from Chanel Centre Staff including the Pastoral Team Leader, Bishops’ Secretary, Diocesan Accountant and Diocesan General Manager.
