Grief and Loss Programme

DESCRIPTION

Seasons for Growth is a grief and loss programme that provides young people and adults with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to understand and manage change, loss and grief.

FUNCTION

The aim is to help family growth and understanding: build self esteem; identify feelings; and set personal goals. The programme is an opportunity for young people and adults to learn that change, loss and grief are a normal and valuable part of life.

RESOURCES OR SERVICES

Seasons for Growth is offered at six levels: 6-8 years; 9-10 years; 11-12 years; 13-15 years; 16-18 years; and adult.

Participants work in groups of four to seven and a trained Companion facilitates the workshops.

It is presented in one-hour sessions, once a week, over eight weeks. It concludes with a celebration session and two follow-up sessions.

Leadership training consists of two stages:

Stage 1 – Companionship training prepares a person to work with a group

Stage 2 ­- Training the trainer prepares a person to offer Companionship training sessions.

The programme was developed under the auspices of the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, Sydney, Australia.
